What Oils Are In Deep Blue?
Wintergreen is one of only two plants in the entire world that naturally contain a compound called methyl salicylate -- which is a direct precursor to acetyl salicylic acid (more commonly known as aspirin). As you can imagine, this oil is like liquid aspirin... it creates a cooling sensation on the skin, and is incredibly soothing.
Camphor essential oil is derived from the Cinnamomum camphora plant. One of the main chemical constituents of Camphor is 1,8-Cineole, which creates a strong, fresh scent reminiscent of Eucalyptus and a strong cooling sensation on the skin.
Peppermint essential oil has a high menthol content, which gives a strong cooling effect when applied topically.
Ylang Ylang is best known for its applications for skin and hair, as well as its aroma. However, one of its main constituents is caryophyllene -- a compound that interacts with the nervous system to down-regulate it. It also has a reputation for lowering blood pressure. (One effect of pain is to raise blood pressure.)
Helichrysum is a unique essential oil that has a very broad spectrum of uses, from skin to respiratory system, to stress relief. Why is it in Deep Blue? This oil is excellent for deep physical and emotional pain. It is an anti-spasmodic, calms nerves, helps relieve joint and muscle pain caused by strain, sprain and rheumatoid arthritis.
Blue Tansy contributes to the deep blue colour of this blend. The indigo colour comes from a compound called chamzulene, which is an excellent muscle relaxant. Blue Tansy also contains significant amounts of camphor (the compound, not the essential oil).
Blue Chamomile also contributes to the dark blue colour of Deep Blue blend, and to the soothing and calming properties.
Osmanthus is a small evergreen shrub or small tree, from the same botanical family as jasmine and lilac. The complex aroma of Osmanthus Touch is rich, sweet, and uniquely fruity -- and also known to be very calming.
