Why Ginger?

Ginger has been used for centuries in Asia for both culinary and medicinal purposes. Ginger was one of the first products to travel the “spice route” from Asia to Europe, where both the Greeks and Romans used it extensively. The Greek physician Dioscorides, in his text On Theraputic Substances (AD77) recommended it as a digestive stimulant – a property still recognized today through the wide-spread use of Ginger for Nausea and Travel Sickness.

Ginger is stimulating and warming for several body systems. Within the digestive system it can stimulate the appetite and relieve indigestion, abdominal distress and gas; it is also an excellent aid in resolving old respiratory or digestive mucous. Within the circulatory system, Ginger oil stimulates blood flow and so is a good remedy for cold hands and feet, as well as a powerful aid for cold rheumatic discomfort. In the long run (pun intended!), Ginger oil may even improve athletic performance by increasing blood circulation -- thereby extending endurance, stamina and muscle strength.

Emotional Healing

Ginger is the oil of empowerment.  It is a good oil to use when you want to feel fully present in life. It offers a warrior-like mentality when you feel powerless, defeated, stuck or victimized, or when you blame others for your misfortunes. Ginger helps to shift your emotional perspective so that you feel  protected, courageous, capable and independent. Clove helps you be proactive, to stand up for yourself and live in integrity

To use Ginger aromatically, inhale directly from the bottle, diffuse it, or place a drop in your hands and inhale deeply. To use Clove topically, dilute 1-2 drops with carrier oil and apply to the wrists, the bottoms of the feet or to the upper abdomen. (Note: Ginger is considered a hot oil, so use caution when applying it topically.) To use it internally, take 1-2 drops under the tongue, in a capsule, or in water.
