FUN FACTS

Ylang Ylang tree must grow for three to four years before harvesting can begin. Harvesters pick the flowers only once they have matured, and they don't all mature at the same time. This means that trees are harvested several times during the season.

Ylang Ylang is a unique oil in that it has several different grades: Ylang Ylang 1, 2, 3, “extra,” and “complete.” Each of these grades contains different aromatic molecules that come out of the flowers during different stages of the distillation process. The "complete" oil has the longest distillation time, and contains all of the aroma compounds found in the flower.

Perfumers primarily prefer to use oil from the early stages of distillation, but doTERRA requires the “complete” grade to ensure that all compounds from the Ylang Ylang flowers are included in the oil.
