Love Languages

February is traditionally the "month of love" so naturally, I have been thinking a lot about love as the month starts.

A few years ago, I read Gary Chapman's book The Five Love Languages, and the concepts he writes about really resonated with me. Chapman makes a strong case that people show and feel love in one of five different "love languages":

1. Words of Affirmation (praise and appreciative words)
2. Gifts (giving and receiving gifts)
3. Acts of Service (doing things for others, and having others do things for you)
4. Physical Touch (physical proximity)
5. Quality Time (spending time with a loved one)

According to Chapman, each person has a primary love language (and probably a secondary one), and they feel most loved when they are shown love according to their preferred love language.

We can take our relationships to whole new levels when we learn about Love Languages and learn to "speak" the love language that is most important to our loved ones.

If this concept is new to you, I highly recommend reading the book. But, you can also take this quiz to determine your love language.

Because essential oils each have their own emotional resonance, we can also map our oils to the five love languages to really amplify the experience! Here are some diffuser blends for each love language, to get you started. You can use the oils listed here in other ways, as well, to complement your own or your loved ones' love languages... they can be added to body oil or lotion and applied topically, made into room sprays, added to bathwater, and even used to flavour food if they are from a food plant.
