Hocus Focus

The school year is rapidly approaching, and it really brings me back to a time when my kids were young. September is the REAL new year, isn't it? The first day of school is a fresh start. Kids begin the year with high hopes! They are happy to reconnect with their friends, engage with new teachers and new subjects, and take on new sports and activities. Getting back to routine feels so good.

For kids who struggle with attention issues, however, it doesn't take long for the novelty to wear off and the same old struggles and frustration to set in. For one of my kids, this was a really big issue. We tried EVERYTHING. And, I really mean everything.

When I found essential oils, I was jaded. Everything we had tried worked for three months... and then it didn't. I figured out that it was because my son wanted SO BADLY to be "normal" that he could hold it together for three months before he just couldn't any more. The special diets, the sticker programs, the supplements and all the other interventions we tried just hadn't provided a long term solution.

I got some oils and I got advice on how to use them from a family who had had success. We used them every day, and our experience was phenomenal -- the effects continued far beyond the three month barrier that we had always run up against. In fact, to this day we maintain that our son would not have been able to finish high school successfully without essential oils!

If you are wondering what oils are best for attention issues, keep reading below. Our experience began with the first three oils you see here and then expanded to include In Tune -- but dōTERRA has continued to develop blends specifically for this issue, so there are more options available today than there were for my kids.

If you want an even longer list of oils that can help, check out the ingredient lists of the blends!

Vetiver is my family's superstar oil! This rich, earthy oil is super calming and somehow cuts out the "noise" in the brain that interferes with focus.

I can't say enough good things about Balance blend. This is wonderful, calming & grounding blend that really helped my son.

My son had a lot of trouble sleeping, and the combination of Vetiver, Balance and Serenity at bedtime gave him a good night's rest.

When dōTERRA created In Tune, it was a godsend to my family. Check out this week's Deep Dive to learn how we used it.

Thinker is a blend designed for younger children, but people of any age can use it. It is a blend of four oils that zero in on focus.

You may think of Adaptiv as being for stress and anxiety, but people love it for the feeling of "focused calm" that it gives them.

Years ago, a mom created a blend called "Tranquility" for her little one. dōTERRA's Peace is very similar. See below for the Tranquility master blend recipe.

There is something about Lemon that really enhances focus. Its fresh and uplifting aroma wake up the senses and help the brain engage.

Cedarwood is known as "poor man's Vetiver" for its wonderfully calming aroma and effects. If your budget is too tight for Vetiver, try this oil first.

Essential oils are SO MUCH MORE than nice smells! If you need some help in this area, please send me an email. I'd be happy to set up a call with you to explore your family's needs.
