Are you ready for Halloween? As a kid, I always LOVED dressing up and running from house to house, collecting candy that I would treasure for months. I hid my stash and hoarded it as long as possible.
These days I don't dress up in a costume, but I love to see the little munchkins of the neighbourhood with their cute costumes and their excited faces. I love to see the bigger kids, too, spinning out their childhood as long as possible. I confess that I set aside my healthy aspirations for Halloween, and hand out full size chocolate bars to the teens who dress up and go door to door.
Along with the cold weather and fun events like Thanksgiving and Halloween, cold and flu come knocking at our doors. Keep sickness away with these simple tips.
Tip #1: Use a diffuser in your entryway. Every guest brings in a lungful of air, and breathes it out in your home along with any germs they are carrying. This is why I love to have a diffuser going in my entryway, loaded up with On Guard to ward off those pesky pathogens AND make my home smell amazing. While On Guard is an OG favourite, other oils that are also good for this purpose are Stronger, Purify, Harvest Spice and Holiday Joy. Citrus oils are very good as well. You can also make your own germ-slaying diffuser blend by combining citrus oils like Lemon, Wild Orange or Grapefruit with any spice oil or spice blend.
Tip #2: Eat healthy! Halloween ushers in the season of candy, and sugar is one of the worst things for the immune system. Stick with Nature's own "candy," healthy fruits and vegetables. There is a recipe below that will help you increase the immunity value of Fall's delicious apple harvest. Soaking fruit in water and a drop or two of essential oil is a fantastic way to amplify flavour and increase the health benefits. This recipe calls for apples and On Guard, but you should also try grapes with Wild Orange... delicious!!
Tip #3: Get enough sleep. Your body recharges the immune system during sleep, so get your 8 hours of beauty sleep every night. Do not "resist a rest"!
