Gifting Festive Foodstuffs

Continuing on this month’s theme of handmade gifts, today the theme is food and cooking! Whether you want to gift something you made yourself, or gift something to someone who loves to cook, look no further than your dōTERRA essential oils.

Flavoured Olive Oil

Have you ever gone into one of those speciality olive oil stores? Flavoured olive oil is a popular and expensive item! Once you know this method, you can make your own flavoured olive oil any time you want, using just a few drops of your favourite dōTERRA essential oils. Flavoured olive oil can be used in any dish that calls for olive oil, from pasts sauces to salad dressings. I buy good quality olive oil from Costco but you can find it at any grocery store. High quality olive oil will be sold in glass bottles (avoid oil sold in plastic), and look for a harvest date and expiry date. Some of my favourite flavours to add are Oregano, Thyme, Marjoram, Basil, Spanish Sage and Black Pepper. Lemon is a beautiful complementary flavour to any of these. When giving this as a gift, I also like to add dried or fresh herbs to the mixture so the bottle is as gorgeous to look at as it is delicious in taste. If you're using fresh herbs, make sure they are completely dry, and also completely submerged in the oil. You can find beautiful bottles in home goods stores and even at dollar stores.

For the Sweet Tooth
If you or your gift recipient have a sweet tooth, this holiday fudge recipe is sure to be a hit. It's very easy to make, too. I recommend using high quality dark chocolate (not chocolate chips) because the result will be tastier. Wild Orange is always a great flavour to combine with chocolate, but consider alternatives like Tangerine or Clementine. Instead of Peppermint, you could try SuperMint if you have a bottle of that. Cinnamon or On Guard also go very well with chocolate.

Throat Soothing Honey
What better thing to gift in the winter season than a jar of liquid gold?! This recipe pulls together two mighty healers in one simple potion, and is a fabulous remedy to keep on hand during cold and flu season. On Guard and honey are both legendary for helping us feel better fast. Any time you might feel a little under the weather, make some tea and use a bit of this honey to sweeten and flavour it.

Gather up your collection of essential oils and other ingredients, find some beautiful containers, and set aside a few hours to create something unique and delicious for your gifting this year.
