With fires raging throughout many forests, the air quality this summer is going to be a concern.
When it gets smokey outside, here are my top tips for maintaining healthy air inside your home!
Upgrade and Maintain Air Filtration
Use MERV 13+ or HEPA filters in your HVAC system to capture fine particles from smoke, and replace the filters more frequently during fire season, as they can become clogged quickly. Consider portable HEPA air purifiers for extra protection in key rooms.
Seal and Recirculate
Keep windows and doors closed to prevent smoke from entering and open them as little as possible. Seal gaps around doors and windows for added protection. Set your HVAC systems to recirculation mode to avoid drawing in smoky outdoor air.
Minimize Indoor Pollution
Avoid activities that generate indoor air pollution, such as smoking, burning candles or incense, frying food, or using gas stoves without proper ventilation. Vacuum only with a HEPA-filter vacuum, and use a damp mop or cloth on surfaces reduce dust without stirring up particles.
