We are starting a bathroom renovation this week at my house, and all week we have been preparing for it. Hubby drew the short straw, and got all the heavy labour: tearing out the existing bathroom, right down to the subfloor and drywall. My job has been to clear out the bathroom cupboards, which is no small task either, given that we have lived in the house since 1999 and are both pack rats. If you have ever lived in a house that long, you may know the feeling!
Along with uncovering MANY things that are either no longer needed, wanted or even working, I found reminders of several essential oil delights that can turn any bathroom (old or new!) into a spa. Of course, I can't resist passing along ideas, so here are my top tips for using dōTERRA essential oils in your bathrooms!
1. A diffuser is fantastic in any room, and my favourite type of diffuser for a small space like a bathroom is a passive diffuser such as a bowl full of lava rocks. It doesn't need electricity, it's decorative, and dropping essential oils onto the lava rocks is like a little ritual every day. I leave a few favourite bottles beside the diffuser so I can switch up the aroma from day to day. My favourites: Easy Air, Eucalyptus and Shinrin-Yoku!
2. I keep a bottle of Tea Tree in the bathroom and use a few drops in the toilet bowl after cleaning it. It basically turns the toilet into a diffuser! I love the fresh clean smell of Tea Tree, but of course you can use any essential oil that you prefer. Lemongrass is another one that would be a good choice for this.
3. Make sure to keep some essential oils in your medicine cabinet to use in your skin care routine. I use dōTERRA's skin care products but I also add essential oils directly to my moisturizer, or apply on specific areas that need extra care. My favourites here: Frankincense, Rose Touch, Immortelle and Yarrow|Pom.
4. My medicine cabinet also includes dōTERRA SuperMint toothpaste and On Guard Mouthwash, and I scrub my night guard with On Guard Foaming Hand Soap (it's the BEST!)
5. Make some Shower Steamers (also known as Shower Melts), and keep them in a sealed jar near the shower. Drop one on the floor of the shower, away from the direct flow of water. As it melts, the essential oil diffuses into the steam of the shower. These are especially fantastic for those days when you feel a little stuffy, or a little sluggish. And they are super easy to make! My favourite essential oils for Shower Steamers are Easy Air (Breathe), Eucalyptus, Balance and Adaptiv. Here is my recipe:
Enjoy your spa time!
