Years ago, I was a busy and often exhausted young mom of three boys who only stopped moving when they fell asleep at night. My to-do list was long, and continued long after the boys were in bed for the night.
I learned three very important things in those years. The first thing I learned was how to prioritize my to-do list. Instead of doing all the things I liked to do first, I learned to use them as rewards. (There is even a book about this technique, called "Eat the Frog First.") Get the worst things done first, and then do the more enjoyable tasks.
The second thing I learned was to drop things off the bottom of the list when I started to feel overwhelmed. What a revelation it was that the world wouldn't stop if I missed a few things from my list! This is a technique that I continue to use to this day.
The third important lesson I learned was that I could finish some projects in "little bites." That is to say, I didn't need to do the whole task in one go. As a self-confessed crafter, sewist and artist, this is a lesson I continue to work on to this day (because I find it hard to tear myself away from something fun).
All of this is to encourage you to avoid overwhelm. When your to-do list gets too long, please don't stress, because that isn't healthy. Instead, re-evaluate. Make a cup of tea. Re-do your list. Drop the least important things off the list (or delegate). Ask for help. Take a break.
In the spirit of little holidays from our to-do lists, here are some diffuser recipes that will give you a pick-me-up or a little relaxation in your busy day. Take time to fill your diffuser and enjoy some respite from your crazy busy day.
